Check out Cold Snap a Canadian football game by Plaay Games.
thanks bro😍😍
You're welcome! Hope it helps!
Happy Canada Day!! Cool concept: I am pulling down these games as I watch Free Agent Frenzy tomorrow! 1759 Siege of Quebec And for a train game: 1856: Railroading in Upper Canada from 1856 or 1867: Railways of Canada
The train ones sound neat!
I still have my copy of Canadian Civil War (SPI). There was a Canadian game called Poleconomy, which was quite fun. It was sort of a mix of Monopoly where you would own Canadian companies, so they must have licensed the logos to make it. On top of that, there was a parliament so that you could become Prime Minister and handle the public purse. We had fun making up tax laws. At the time I didn't really appreciate how it illustrated the corrupt state of the world, which is arguably worse now than it was back then. My copy of Quebec 1759 appears to have the same map, but the blocks have the white squares stamped right on them, no stickers. The publisher was called Gamma Two games back then, with the same logo.
You have to play to Prelude to Rebellion if you don’t know that game. It’s a Twilight Struggle kind of game between French-Canadian Patriotes against British Loyalists. The Prelude System is incredible (card driven and dice scoring tracks) lots of tension and a lot of fun. Give it a try.
Oh, that sounds neat! I'll look that one up! Thank you!
buying a board game for yourself while on your honeymoon => boss move :)
She picked it out for him. Wonderful woman.
Oh yeah!
Well, she approved it, which is almost as good!
Halifax hammer time!
Ha ha ha, that's Acres of Snow, isn't it?
Never had a dull game of Dune:Imperium and i have played over 50 games of the base game alone.
Agreed! I have to set Flash straight on that one!
The music is totally willing me to stop watching. Please reupload without it if you kept the source video!
Hi there! Sorry about the music - this was one of the first videos we ever made for our channel almost 4 years ago when we had no skill. We don't have the original footage anymore. But, I am working on a strategy guide that will have much better sound, and it will be out soon!
Love the Reboxings!
Awesome! Thank you!
Could we have more Paths/Pursuit/Illusion of glory content on this wonderful channel please?
Yes, it's on the way!
❤
Glad you liked it!
I really like this one... it does have a bit of added complexity compared to Paths of Glory, but I have no other game that looks at this theater like this one does...
Yes, that's one of the reasons why I was intrigued by it as well.
If you paid for Fractured Sky, which is 179$+20$ shipping =199$ it would be a very very bad surprise for you. 200$ for a light filler game. Luckily IV Studios gave you the game, so you can promote it. It would be a whole other ball game if you bought it. I like how IV Studios gives game bundles of 500+$ to "UA-cam influencers" to promote their games, but it is not a sponsored video 😂
Fractured Sky has enough complexity that it would be more in the medium range. It's going to take time to set up and to play. It's entirely possible that I have less stake in the game, but I am always conscious of the fact that I received a review copy. The measure I would use is whether I will buy this game. After doing some content on the video, I gave it to one of the fellows who played it with me. I had to borrow it back for this video. I'm sorely tempted to buy the game should my family ask to play it more. I would likely buy the one with less bling because I genuinely like the game. Absolutely worth it for 69$. You're right that with the cost of shipping, and for the tricked out game, it's likely overpriced. I'm glad you put "Influencers" in quotations, because I would not consider myself an influencer. I would say I'm a person who enjoys games, and when I like them, I want to share them with others.
The main thing: You aren't playing against the game. You are playing against the other player.
Yes, that is true! But the "decision space" matters as well. Technically, you're playing against the other player when playing Tic-Tac-Toe, but the decision space is quite limited in that case (although you could say that you are dependent upon the other player making a mistake, so I still see your point!)
They should have hired you to do the tutorial video. Well done
Thank you! I worked hard on this one, purely for the Love of the game!
interested to see actual game play hopefully soon, and if they have other historical figures in mind for future games
I haven't checked recently, but I know that the game will start to ship over the summer. And if it's successful, I think there will be a lot of sequels featuring other historical persons.
A very good recent example is John Company. An ambitiously complex game that simulated the fall of East India Company during the heights of colonization. The creators treated the subject matter with respect and even included a foreword in the manual, stating that they fully understand if not all players are comfortable with the subject matter. After all, to win in that game, you were asked to be heartless capitalist wished to plunder Asia in order to enrich themselves. But the incredible marriage of theme and mechanics managed to bring the downfall of a corporation plagued with greed and hubris into focal focus; putting a magnifying glass to a part of ugly human history where we are able to learn a lot from in the form of a boardgame. And I say they succeeded with flying colors.
I think board games are a great way to learn about "ugly history" - there has been some backlash about it in the past, but I'm getting the sense that people are ok with it as long as the history is treated with respect and understanding
6, 4, run 2 point useless, my prefered!
everyone knows the challenge rule but most people dont use it
In my experience, most people don't know of the rule, because almost no one reads the rules - they learn from other players, who have also not read the rules
I'm currently on my first game of Diplomacy and I drew Italy. It's 1909 (3 months of real play time now) and I'm now the leader of the pack, 5 dots away to doing the solo. This video has been so helpful! I may not manage it, but it has been so much fun.
Congrats! That's quite a feat! The hard part is closing the deal now that the whole world sees what you're up to...
There is now also a Football Highlights 2052 game, modeled after the Baseball Highlights 2045 game, both highly recommended! Maybe World Series and Super Bowl 2024-25?
Yes, that sounds good! We're trying to play a new football board game every year for the Super Bowl, and we've been running out of ideas. I also like the idea of doing the World series, but again, there aren't a ton of baseball games out there that would really do the job.
I really enjoyed Mr. President, but found it too easy even on hard difficulty. Hoping the expansion changes that, it definitely should not be an easy one!
Wow! Perhaps you should be running in the US election this year - I have found it to be a good challenge, especially getting Legacy building legislation through.
Catan all day
Good call
Glad to see my openings are approved by the silicon overlords!
Ha ha ha, you are on the right track!
Dune was boring? Wow. I just don’t know what to say.
I (Nato) disagree, but there's no accounting for Flash's tastes:)
Vaalbara is definitely a game that caught me off guard. I tend to play heavier games but got it on a whim and it’s become a staple amongst our group. Whenever we’re waiting on one or two people to show up for the more intense games, we run through a few rounds of it.
I haven't heard of that one. I'll have to look that one up!
i just keep going to master like 18.000 than down to beginner every time
The game that surprised me the most last year, in a good way, was The Vale of Eternity. Such an elegant little game, easy rules, deep strategy. Totally unexpected.
Cool! I'll have to check that one out!
Watched this video, then some of your dedicated videos on Mr. President, then read some reviews, then pre-ordered the 2nd edition of the game. Thanks for the recommendation!
As long as you have the time and the table space, it's a great game!
Hegemony!
I've heard great things about this one!
Deliverance pleasantly surprised me. I'm not big on co-op games but this one is great.
Interesting. I don't know that one - I'll have to check that out
I’m so glad to see someone finally give Emerge its due credit. I was immediately taken by the look and was first in line at the Pandasaurus booth at GenCon 2023…….. and then nothing. They never seemed to promote it, and the reviews were ok to good at best. We have such a fun time with it. The dice chucking and manipulation to take actions is such a satisfying puzzle each round. Glad to see you enjoyed it!
It is a great game - It's sad sometimes when great games get lost in all the noise and fomo
Hi! Cool video. Interesting game that seems to have been running under most radars! How does this compare with Hegemony in the “political games/simulation” genre?!
Are you ever going to finish the Avalon Hill Story? It stops with 1991 so where is the rest of the story?
It's coming! It's mostly written and just needs the final editing. They take a long time to make and a lot of focused energy (not my strong point). But my goal is to get it done for next month.
Star Wars legion at 10 is criminal
Ahh Mr. President was great -- But I expected it to be :)
Yes, it could have been crushed under its own weight - however, it flew!
Professor Plum 🥵
He's always so formal
Two that surprised me were -- Captains of Industry and Lacrimosa
I haven't heard of them - what do you like best about them?
@@LegendaryTactics Captains of Industry is an older game (2015) that the board was meh but the game play was amazing... a purely player driven economy with production facilities producing seven kinds of goods, nine markets for selling these goods, and four sectors of four real estate areas which drives the demand for goods. Lacrimosa was introduced to me last January and the artwork was amazing ... but how would it play? The premise is that you take the roles of patrons, recruited by Constanze, Mozart's widow, to help finish his last composition. The card play mechanic reminded me of Lisboa (one of my favs) -- it was a hoot as it plays over just four rounds!
You gotta give Dune another go. It is such a good game. Many people feel the 2nd expansion Rise of Ix really gives this game some bite with the addition of technologies.
Yes, I just got Rise of Ix. I will convince Flash to try it again!
the new 'sequel' game is really good too.
@jamestriplett5854 Yes and so is the 2nd expansion for the 1st game Immortality!
@@boardgametotears I have that too, but it doesn't change the 'meta' of the game as much as IX. The sequel really changes the economy too.
Do you lnow why the Hideout card lets you clear a Location with a hidden Vampire and then matures the Vampire? In the board game rules it says you can't clear a hideout and mature the Encounter cards.
i like this game
It is really fun!
A list without Paths of Glory, it is realy worth it.
I just recently got Paths of Glory, and have been learning it. I've yet to get it to the table, but when I do, I might need to redo the video and the list!
What do you do when they push there e4 pawn attacking your knight?
Unique video! What about for solo play?
Ef this AI garbage
I thought it would be fun, sorry you didn't like it
It’s all subjective as players have their own strategies, and although in general some basic moves may apply, they may also not be beneficial as the opponent needs also to be encouraged to take risks that strengthens your chances of a win. Then again my playing is reckless, and confuses the opponent into defeat!!
War games and colonization. I’m surprised Trump didn’t make a guest appearance.
Silent defence: this is a variation you can add into the base game for an additional challenge (and mostly used in tournaments) where the attacker is the only one who has to reveal their number, and the defender resolves the conflict, if victorious, they don’t need to reveal their piece. That’s what you’ve described in the vid, but usually both parties must reveal their numbers when an attack happens
That is an interesting variant, which of course relies on the honesty of the defense. Wouldn't it make bombs too powerful though?
Wonder what happened to Cadet Knabe?
I googled it, and I may have found his obituary. It looks like he passed away a couple of years ago: www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/springfield-va/carl-knabe-10810992
